January saw Auckland property buyers enjoying the greatest choice of listings in a January for three years, and at the end of the month, the Barfoot & Thompson network had 3,620 properties on offer.
It is good news for vendors too, as in a break with tradition, both the average and median sales price for Auckland homes in January remained strong. In fact, the average and median prices paid were marginally higher than those in December.
Sales numbers fell more than is usual, but with a healthy amount of new listings now on offer, the market is set for a promising upcoming month.
Although January’s results are pleasing, we shouldn’t read too much into them for the rest of 2017, as the market is only just returning to its normal momentum. What we can say across all price segments is that there are no obvious signs that prices will fall.
